Who We Are
Loving Others Through Service is more than a tag line for us. It is our heartbeat. We use service as a tool to pursue people. Our end goal is to see Jesus at work in the hearts of the people we have the privilege to serve.
Throughout the Bible we see examples of this:
In Galatians 5, Paul is emphasizing the link between love and service when he says “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. Don’t use your freedom to indulge your selfish impulses; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Then in 1 Peter 4 we see “Serve one another according to the gift each of you have received, as good mangers of God’s diverse gifts. Whoever serves should do so from the strength that God furnishes.”
Lastly, we see in Matthew 28 that Jesus set the example for us when it says “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
We focus on creating sustainable relationships by bringing people together. We are intentional in teaching those we work with to discover how God is calling them to live out their everyday faith in simple yet meaningful ways.
How We Began
In 1998, our founder, Melissa Russell, left a promising career path to pursue following God into full-time ministry. She focuses on a biblical approach to daily walking with Christ, and has experience leading 100+ groups on mission trips and outreach opportunities both locally and internationally. In 2006, Melissa obediently followed God to implement the vision given to her, now known as Passion Missions.
The following quote captures her heart for this ministry, her words to a volunteer who had helped with a homeless outreach event:
"Thank you for helping today. It was such a blessing to have both of you there. I appreciated your heart of service. It brought me joy watching you minister to the people. It will forever be etched in my mind as you looked into the eyes of the guy right in front of me and proclaimed the chains being broken! God at work through you!"
