Who We Are
Loving Others Through Service is more than a tag line for us. It is our heartbeat. We use service as a tool to pursue people. Our end goal is to see Jesus at work in the hearts of those who serve with Passion Missions.
Through personalized training we teach volunteers to have a Personal Availability to Serve Selflessly and be Involved Openly with their Neighbors. It starts with a personal relationship with God which then naturally flows into our personal relationship with others. When we make ourselves open or available God can use us to meet the needs of others. We then have opportunity to serve, not in line with our agenda, but with obedience to what God is calling us to do – laying down our lives for others (Selflessly). Once we have a Personal relationship with the Lord, make ourselves open vessels that He can use to accomplish His purposes, we need to just look around us to get Involved with our Neighbor and to do it Openly- without reservation or shame.
How We Began
In 1998, our founder, Melissa Russell, left a promising career path to pursue following God into full-time ministry. She focuses on a biblical approach to daily walking with Christ, and has experience leading 100+ groups on mission trips and outreach opportunities both locally and internationally. In 2006, Melissa obediently followed God to implement the vision given to her, now known as Passion Missions.
The following quote captures her heart for this ministry, her words to a volunteer who had helped with a homeless outreach event:
"Thank you for helping today. It was such a blessing to have both of you there. I appreciated your heart of service. It brought me joy watching you minister to the people. It will forever be etched in my mind as you looked into the eyes of the guy right in front of me and proclaimed the chains being broken! God at work through you!"
